Photo: Cast Iron Tool Still In Mold

A Unique Artifact Found In Ohio

Prehistoric Wonder Found Near Chillicothe, Ohio

On June 30, 2003 the author of this blog, William Conner of Columbus, Ohio, identified a cast iron hand axe still in its partially broken mold. The plugged pour hole can be seen in the middle of the object. A black and white photo of this artifact was published in the author's book "Iron Age America: Before Columbus." The casting was found on a natural terrace along the North Fork of Paint Creek west of Chillicothe, Ohio, the author's home town.

Wyoming Iron Sword 100 BC to 200 AD Smithsonian Museum dated.

This was in a Issue of Ancient American Archaeology of the Americas Before Columbus magazine. Volume 14, issue 89.

Adding this to the blog as a point of interest, Iron, Bronze,Copper knifes & swords have been found all over North America, this one being in Wyoming is of interest as it is an unusual find. Most are back in the Mid-Western to Eastern America.
The article reads as follows.

"Somewhere in the Mountains of Wyoming, a sheep herder stumbled upon this 24 inch iron sword of unusual workmanship.  The sword was sent to the Smithsonian Museum and they put a date upon it between 100BC and 200 AD, Hopewell timeline. How the test was conducted, we do not know. These photos were supplied by the discoverer and are here for our readers to view, If anyone has any information concerning this artifact, please contact, Ancient American Magazine, 877-494-0044, or use our email address. wayne@ancientamerican.com"

William Conner this link to his blog with a lot of information beyond what is here, and full stories as well, I have had Great reviews of his book from people I know and have referenced his works here in order to Share his life's works with the world as well.

Publisher Chad Arment did a fine job of creating a cover for my book "Iron Age America," that is shown below. While all other photos of my book are in black and white on inside pages, many color photos of my archaeology and that of my associates can be viewed on my web site "America's Mysterious Furnaces."

For many years of 2000s I sent out proposal after proposal to book publishers and recieved many "thanks but no thanks" replies. I always believed our work deserved more than just a web site and that only a book could fully describe evidence we found to support our discovery of prehistoric iron furnaces in Ohio.

My claim that these furnaces are without question prehistoric is backed with evidence in the book that indicates that this type of small pit furnace was last used in Europe many years before Columbus sailed. I make this claim speaking for myself, and if others disagree they may do so.
